Upcoming Past
Artist Profile

Harrison, Lee

With daily walks along the river and on the beach, I am constantly aware of angles, shapes, masts, horizons, light patterns, reflections, and the movement of the tides which continually carve and reshape the contours of the dunes, thus evoking thoughts of composition, line and colour for my paintings. The bright skies, warm weather, ‘blue & gold’ colours of Noosa, and happy people, all contribute to a certain ambience or energy which is so conducive to making painting a very pleasurable past-time.

Artist Statement

My artistic pursuits began in earnest with a small community oil painting group in Melbourne, until moving to Queensland in 1998. Keen to expand my horizons I ventured into the world of watercolours and then acrylics. This is now my chosen medium.

“Rivers, ropes and ripples”, and “sun, surf and stripes” are all symbolic of my bright beachy Noosa-style paintings featuring boats on the river and seascapes with striped chairs, purple shadows on sand dunes, and the shoreline at low tide. With daily walks along the river and on the beach, I am constantly aware of angles, shapes, masts, horizons, light patterns, reflections, and the movement of the tides which continually carve and reshape the contours of the dunes, thus evoking thoughts of composition, line and colour for my paintings. Recent trips to Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco and Greece, have added a Mediterranean flavour to my paintings, with Tuscan buildings and old fishing boats being amongst my favourite subjects. My paintings have featured in 19 galleries on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane since 1999 and adorn houses and businesses around Australia, in New Zealand and the U.K.
