Description

Lin Stanton

My Journey started a long time ago. Living on a ship for 13 years, I saw some fantastic sights. I am in awe with the wonder of colour and design in nature.

Inspired by reflections on the water, fabulous coastlines and beautiful beaches, I wanted to depict what I have seen and felt in my own personal way. Even short trips inland have left me totally inspired and I hope that my work shows my thrill of discovering colour wherever I look. It is an ongoing journey and will take a lifetime to create the beauty of colour that surrounds me.

A journey can be physical or emotional; external or internal. This journey began after a long period of confinement. To venture out into the world was a joy and I began to travel to places I had long dreamed of visiting. On my travels, I was consistently drawn to monuments in stone, both natural and those erected by man, particularly ancient man. Stones appear so solid and dependable. They have such wonderful textures and shapes and beautiful colours. I hope I have conveyed these characteristics in this body of work. These stones, wherever they are found, in nature or in manmade structures, are so ancient; formed and reformed over millennia. They put my problems into perspective, to be an observer of ancient traditions that are thousands of years old, embedded in an even older natural world. People come and go but the stones remain. Our time is short. Don’t waste it.

Colour is my passion and I love to travel. How fantastic it is to explore new places and to use different mediums to show others what I have seen and what really turns me on. Whether it is watercolours or acrylics, big bold brush strokes or intricate linocuts, my art and all it portrays is the journey that is important to me. I hope you enjoy my journey too.
