Description
Wendy studied at East Sydney Technical College in the late 1940’s, and the first half of her professional years were filled working as a Commercial Artist, her Commercial Art career lasted for well over thirty years. Wendy studied portraiture with Nan Patterson at the Royal Queensland Art Society and began taking portrait commissions and working as a Fine Artist in 1984. Her portrait work was soon sought after by University and Secondary College Faculties, Corporate Entities and many private collectors.
Wendy was accepted as ‘Master Pastellist’ - Pastellist Society of Australia in 1988, and was also a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society, and the Half Dozen Group of Artists.
In less than five years working as a Portrait Artist, Wendy’s work was selected for a number of prestigious competitions including the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (Oil) in 1988, the Portia Geach Award also in 1988 and the Aberdare Art Prize, (Pastel) in 1989. Wendy’s entry in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize received a ‘Commended’.
Some of the many Awards she has received are the Jack Ambler Memorial Award for Best Portrait of the Show, R.N.A. in 1996; Champion Exhibit of the Show, R.N.A. also 1996 and many ‘First’ and ‘Very Highly Commended’ and ‘Highly Commended Awards’.
In 2007, due to chronic pain from an injury she suffered in early 2001, Wendy packed away her pastels and cleaned her brushes for the last time.
The work displayed here is a ‘boon’ found by her family when sorting through the family home after her husband Garry passed away.
This final collection, Wendy’s legacy, is predominately pieces done with sitting models during ‘Art Days’ with the Half Dozen Group and Royal Queensland Art Society.
