Journeys into Colour is a celebration, it is a wonderful body of work that talks as much about the external world as it does about the inner journeys of three artists. Using colour as the binding force Lin, Gaye and Christine give us a wonderful insight into their own journeys. Every colour has been carefully chosen for its energy more than it relationship to real life, these works speak on a deep emotional level. Each of the artists is very experienced and that experience has given their works an authority out of reach of the newer artists. To immerse yourself in this body of work is to let go, to release, to fly back to the sweetness of our youth where everything is new and interesting. In a world of mass produced media this work stands proudly telling the stories of our time in a way that will fade with fashion, this is where art lives.
Landspace was borne of my fascination with light and the environment, early on my interests in art where about technique and understanding of portrait paintings. My interest changed over the years and I have become increasingly interested in philosophy, colour theory and theoretical physics. I continue to research ideas on theoretical physics and apply those ideas into my art.
Wendy Kadell has always had a fascination with people’s faces and the body form, her intent has been to capture her subject’s sensitivities. Wendy’s desire to be an artist harks back to her pre-school days; she has vivid memories of accompanying her ‘mate’ the janitor, of her parents’ Darlinghurst flats, and happily drawing on all of the stairs. Apparently, he didn’t mind following behind her and cleaning off her ‘art work’ on a regular basis.
She always knew that she wanted to draw.
