The face of the 2011 floods was an easy choice for a portrait of a Brisbane identity, Ian Stewart kept us all informed and calm during the floods. Ian joined the Queensland Police Service just in time to deal with the 1974 floods, by the time the next big flood arrived he was Assistant Commissioner and ready for, and equal to the challenge.
The term 'quiet achiever' gets used a lot, in Ian Stewart's case, it is entirely fitting. Ian treats everyone with a ready smile and a firm handshake, you are always put at ease in his presence. Seeing him at local functions and even doing the grocery shopping, it seems that we all owned 'our Commissioner' . I chose not to amplify the trimmings of a Commissioner's uniform; for me it was always about the floods and that very likeable face guiding Brisbane through some very trying times. I am honoured to capture this humble man to whom we owe so much.
