landlines - face of a nation
acrylic on canvas
122 x 91 cm
Voted Best of Show Nundah Festival Art Show 2011
Landlines explores our relationship with this ancient land, loosely based on the Fibonacci sequence and the Thinkism art movement, the composition is engaging. I'm very interested in topographical maps and the way that they define our world, in this painting I have achieved a credible sense of depth and form using line, colour and scale. I am so happy with the outcome, some of you may be able to see a face in the landscape, it evolved along the way. At 1220mm high (four feet) this painting has a beautiful glow to it and is not shown properly in a photograph due to my multi-layer method of painting. It won best landscape painting in the Nundah Art show, I have really enjoyed my time with it, but now it is time for someone else to enjoy it.
endless roads roll out
across the living earth
while waterways ancient and elegant
give the land new birth
trees are cleared and burned
land is cut and scarred
lines man-made are everywhere
white lines and tar
rail lines and power lines
sound harmless enough
a landscape unrecognizable
when is enough, enough?
