Spring Training Sandgate (SOLD)
To tell this story I had to use a wide format to set off those iconic sandbars and to give the sky enough room to tell its story.
We have all enjoyed those mornings when we are up early and have time to observe someone else’s day, just watching these horses train is so relaxing. I want my viewers to feel like they are observing a very special moment in time.
Sandgate, on Queensland’s Moreton Bay is quite beautiful, its shallow waterfront looks across the bay to Moreton Island. The view is populated with all manner of boats and rendered in so many beautiful colours, it is endlessly entertaining. My aim here was to capture the energy of an early morning, there is the unanswered question of the weather. Is that bank of clouds coming, or going?
On stretched canvas I used Atelier Acrylic paint after undercoating so many times that the texture of the canvas is very smooth. I love to work smooth because I get to tell the stories more precisely.
