Dogs barking adding to the din
Cattle bellowing, frantic
As the roundup begins
whips cracking
echo off the trees
horses wet with sweat
as they dance between our knees
Keep them on the move now
Whistles dust and confusion
Round-up the stray
escape is just an illusion
Bulging eyes dark and brown
Nostrils wildly flared
As a rider appears behind him
Surprised and unprepared
He’s brought back to the pack
To continue with the drive
No time to stand still now
Keep a wary eye
Moving ever forward
To a fate they can’t deny
In the yard now
The noise can drive you mad
The gate clangs behind them
Oh what a time we’ve had
400 in the mob
6 more trucks to go
We’ll have this done by Friday
Then we’ll take it slow
I’ll soak me bones
And get cleaned up
Then I’ll kill this thirst
It’ll take a little while though
To soothe this back that’s cursed
The drivers are all local blokes
Looking for a bit of cash
There’s been no rain for months now
So all their plans are dashed
They take on jobs to move the mob
And deliver them to the yards
To see a cocky driving trucks
Is a turn-up for the cards
