Leader of the Pack
101 x 76cm
acrylic on canvas
Leader of the pack came to being after time spent cattle out near Morven in western Queensland, there was always one brave creature that would lead the way. Leader of the Pack reminds me of the old saying “he who hesitates is next”. Who wants to be second?
I wanted to create the feeling of dry heat place, you can almost hear the flies droning around the muffled sounds of the cows and their hooves on the stony tracks.
My ‘martaerials’ are partially inspired by my desire to explore the colour of shadows, especially in an aerial format. The world looks different from above, the colour of the earth shown has balance to the things that grow there, in a never-ending lattice of grasses and scrub. I really love using cows and sheep as compositional elements, the cows here are on their way to water.
