South East Queensland's waterways offer so many opportunities for artists and the Brisbane River is no exception. "Brisbane River Moorings" was inspired by a photograph I took back in 2006 on an early morning walk with my brother, John. Central to our conversation was the discussion of how beautiful the Brisbane River is. I drew on that thought while I constructed this scene. The image is a balance of the calmness of the water, the electricity of the reflections of the commercial buildings and the contrast with the leisure craft bobbing on the water. I know that I've probably painted someone's home on the water - what a place to live!

We are an elderly couple. Sometime in the 1970s a young man knocked on our door in the evening with some paintings to sell. He was selling them to pay his way through uni or college. We normally sent door to door people packing, especially when it was getting late in the day but he was a lovely fellow and we were drawn to believing his story. ... Though not knowing ANYTHING about art, We bought 2 of the ones he showed us, and still have them on our wall to this very day!! Recently Pete's brother, who studied as a graphic artist years ago, was walking past an op shop and stopped to inspect a painting in th window. It was not only the same artist (singed "Martin" as were the others) but he recognised the style and bought it for us for the princely sum of $10🤭😄 This one is the Siamese twin to one of our two. It depicts a remote area of he country with a lonely dwellng surroundd by gum trees. It is the same dwelling as the one we bought, but from th opposite direction! Just for fun I went searching in my phone to see if that young man was still painting ... and the closest I found was you🤗 Just purely for our own benefit (and to see how great our belief in this young man) I decided to contact you to see if you were he👍❣ if you are, you, and we, will now have a story to tell to our families! We are not looking to make money out of this if it IS indeed you. Just a old couple who would love to think that they helped a lovely young man to fulfill his dreams. Thanks for "listen g" to our amazing tale.xx Sharyn

Hi and thanks for contacting me, I don't think that I'm your man. I moved to Queensland in 1978 and lived on the Gold Coast for 5 years. On behalf of all creatives, let me thank you for your support, and I hope that you still get pleasure from the works that you already have.
